According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town has a total region of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km2), all of it land.

Wellington is I-25's northernmost Colorado town.

In the town, the populace was spread out with 32.7% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 38.2% from 25 to 44, 16.5% from 45 to 64, and 5.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
